INDOOR MEETINGS are held in the Totley Library and start at 7.30pm. There will be publicity advertising these events in the local press, on the website, emailed out and on posters located at various sites around Totley and in the Wood. Monday 15th April: FoGW AGM, followed by talk on Willow Tits by Jim Clarke. Totley Library, 7:30pm 

Monday 2nd December: Talk at Totley Library, 7.30pm

Danny Udall, Senior Site Manager, Eastern Moors Partnership: 

Upland Change in a Nature and Climate Emergency.

How the Eastern Moors landscape needs to change to meet the demands of climate change.

Free to members, £3 donation requested from non-members.

 

OUTDOOR EVENTS

Saturday 13th July: Bird and Butterfly walk. Stuart Davies will be leading his next walk on Saturday 13th July. Meet at the end of Totley Hall Lane at 8.30am.

The walk will last most of the morning but feel free to leave earlier.

Free to members, donation of £3 asked from non-members.

 

 

Friday 19th July: Joe Bowden of the Peak District National Park will be leading a walk through the woods on Friday19th July focussing on the trees. Meet at 6.30pm at the end of Totley Hall Lane. Come and learn about the wood.

 

Attendance is limited to 15 people. Free to FOGW Members.

Wednesday 18th September
Walk through the woods with Joe Bawden, tree expert. Learn about the trees in the wood and how things could change in the future. Meet at the Scout Hut end of the wood at 4pm. Walk may take up around 2 hours but leave as you please.

Saturday 21st September:

Join us for a walk in the woods to celebrate a 50 year anniversary

It’s been half a century since local resident Bob Warburton walked through our wood to record what he saw. So come along as we follow in Bob’s footsteps to:

  • Mark the 50 year anniversary

  • Share memories

  • Explore changes

Assemble outside the Cross Scythes on Saturday 21 September at 2pm.

 

Local historians Pauline Burnett and Josie Dunsmore will guide us from Totley Hall Lane, through the wood, to the 97 bus terminus on Baslow Road.

From there you can catch a 97 back to the Cross Scythes, or walk to the Cricket Inn or return back to Totley Hall Lane.

 

Non-members welcome, there is no entry charge for this event. The walk will probably take at least 90 minutes.

Sunday 20th October:

Mammal trapping with Val Clinging. Joint meeting with SORBY.

Traps set on the previous evening for the release of the mammals on the Sunday morning.

Meet 8.30am at the end of Totley Hall Lane

Free to members, donation of £3 asked from non-members.

 

Saturday 9th November:

Bird Walk with Stuart Davies. Meet at the end of Totley Hall Lane at 09.30am.

Free to members, donation of £3 asked from non-members.

Fungi foray with Ziggi   Meet at bottom of Totley Hall Lane at 10:30

Free to members, donation of £3 asked from non-members.

Annual General Meeting

Monday April 20 7.30pm

The AGM will take place in Totley Library on Monday 20th April at 7.30pm. There will also be a talk by Claire Bithell from Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust about the ongoing projects in the Sheaf Valley to improve flood protection.

permitting.

The walks will be advertised on the Facebook page, website and posters around the
area nearer each event.

Practical Conservation Sessions, led by a Ranger.

Wear suitable clothing & footwear. Tools, PPE and light refreshments are provided by the Ranger.
