Sunday 30th July: Stream Dipping event. Drop in from 1pm to 3pm. Come and find out what creatures live in Gillfield Wood. Borrow our nets and magnifiers to see what you can find.

We will be in the woods where the bridge to Woodthorpe Hall crosses the main footpath. If you approach the woods from Totley Hall Lane there will be signs to follow leading you to where we are.

This is a free event. No need to book. Wellies would be a good idea.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

EVENING EVENT IN GILLFIELD WOOD

Saturday 9 September at 7.30pm

You are welcome to join us on a Bat Survey with Dave Gash, local ecologist.  No previous experience is necessary.

Meet for a 7.30pm start from the bottom of Totley Hall Lane.  Please wear suitable footwear and clothing and bring a torch or head torch if you have one.  Dave will be using a Bat Detector to pick up any calls but do feel free to bring your own. Please note that this event may be cancelled if the weather is poor.

This will be a round walk across Totley Hall Farm down through the wood via entrance 3 (the Storth House path) to the footbridge over Totley Brook.  From there we’ll be walking back to Totley Hall Lane.  We will look for various species such as Pipistrelle along the field hedges and Whiskered Bat along the brook.  Last year we also recorded Noctule and Brown Long Eared.  What else might we find if it’s a fine evening?

Dave will tell you about the lifestyle of Bats with particular reference to any found locally to Totley.
